Sennelier Oil Pastels were first developed in 1949 at the request of Pablo Picasso, who wanted an artist-quality pastel with rich, intense colour that could be applied freely and directly to a wide range of surfaces.
In response, Sennelier created a soft, creamy oil pastel that delivers the vibrancy and strength of traditional oil colour while offering greater flexibility in application.
Unlike conventional oil colours, these pastels are made with a distinctive blend of non-aggressive oils and waxes. This allows them to be used on almost any surface, including paper, without cracking or damaging the substrate.
The carefully balanced formula gives Sennelier Oil Pastels their distinctive creamy texture and unctuous feel, supporting expressive, unrestricted mark-making. The range includes 120 colours, all of which are 100% light fast, making it one of the few true artist-quality oil pastel ranges available.
